4th DRIVER OF SEASON FOR #1 DODGE, VETERAN SCOTT PRUETT RACES TO 10th PLACE FINISH SATURDAY IN WATKINS GLEN, NY
Max Papis’ second consecutive race behind the wheel of the #1 Miccosukee Gaming & Resort/Northeastern Supply Company Chevrolet ended abruptly just two laps into Saturday afternoon’s Zippo 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York.
An uncharacteristic blown motor ended the world class road racer’s day and never gave him the opportunity of improving on last week’s scintillating third place effort at the very first Busch Series event ever held across the border in Canada on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
“I had no warning. It (the engine) just went up in a cloud of smoke and our day was done,” said the Italian road racing great who was just entering the first turn on the historic, 11-turn, 2.46-mile course after completing the race’s second lap.
It was the worst finish of the season for the Phoenix Racing team that next week will return J.J. Yeley to its driver’s chair for the running of the Michigan 200 at the Michigan International Speedway on Saturday afternoon. That race is scheduled to get the green flag at 3 p.m. with the race to be televised again nationally by ESPN2.
For the second straight weekend, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver and defending Busch Series champion Kevin Harvick captured the victory outdistancing his RCR teammate Jeff Burton, polesitter Kurt Busch, Paul Menard and rookie Brad Coleman who rounded out the top five finishers.
