STATE TITAN POWER GAS WATER HEATER MEETS DEMANDS OF LARGE COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS

State Titan Power Gas Water HeaterASHLAND CITY, TENNESSE (MARCH 9, 2001): State Industries, Inc. has introduced the Titan Power Gas water heater, designed specifically to meet the heavy demands of larger commercial installations. With gas inputs ranging from 199,000 Btu to 2.5 million Btu and storage capacities from 140 gallons to 600 gallons, a single Titan Power Gas unit can furnish all the hot-water needs of even the largest, multi-story applications, including hotels, office buildings, apartments, schools, hospitals, sports arenas and stadiums.

Featuring ASME construction, the Titan meets these large applications using a forced draft burner made by Power Flame®, the most widely used burner in the United States. By forcing combustion products through the unit, the burner requires a smaller and therefore less costly vent.

Operating on either natural gas or liquid propane, the Power Flame® burner combines with a generous heat-transfer surface area and aggressive internal baffling to deliver a thermal efficiency of 83% — a significant upgrade over the standard 78% efficiencies of conventional commercial water heaters. In addition, unlike higher-efficiency units, the Titan produces no condensation.

Double-lined, Corrosion-Resistant tank:All State Titan models have a combustion chamber matched to the unit’s Power Flame burner. Critical welds in the tube sheet and tank are carefully isolated from the burner flame, eliminating the need for special insulation while also maximizing heater efficiency and extending tank life.

The storage tank’s special, corrosion-resistant double-lining also contributes to greater longevity. Each tank is flame-sprayed with a copper coating, to which is applied a second, UL/ASME-listed polymer lining. The water heater’s fire tubes are protected with seamless, heat-fitted copper sleeves, measuring .04_ in thickness. Each tank is individually inspected to assure maximum corrosion-resistance.

Carrying a five-year warranty on the tank and combustion chamber, the Titan Power Gas also offers these other important features and options:

  • Direct venting: The Titan’s direct-vent option meets the design requirements for sealed-combustion firing, while also avoiding negative air pressure conditions that plague many large buildings. Commercial spaces, particularly restaurant kitchens, often fail to provide sufficient makeup air to support a water heater’s combustion process. With its direct-vent option, the Titan can draw all the makeup air it needs from outside, rather than from inside, the commercial building, resulting in a safe and efficient combustion process.

  • Dual-thermostatic control: Every State Titan is equipped with two operating thermostats and a manual-reset, high-limit control to ensure accurate temperature control to a maximum of 180° F. Temperature and pressure gauges are available as options on all models.

  • Superior stability: A rugged steel base distributes the water heater’s weight (from 1,800 to 5,216 pounds) evenly along two channel supports, making the Titan Seismic 4-compliant. Design calculations and seismic lugs are also available.

  • Compact footprint: The matched tank-and-burner combination, coupled with an 8_ maintenance clearance, results in a smaller floor-space requirement than what is found with most competitive designs for similar applications.

  • Anode monitoring system tells the end user when one of the anodic rods has been fully sacrificed and needs replacement, thereby extending the life of the storage tank.

  • Add-ons for code compliance: A variety of add-on controls — including pre- and post-purge controls, a barometric damper with a spill switch and Hi/Lo gas pressure switches — are available to meet the requirements of various codes and standards. Control options include: UL, UL-CSD-1, FM, FM-CSD-1 and IRI.

The Titan Power Gas commercial water heater is designed, constructed and National Board-registered and stamped in accordance with ASME Section IV requirements. The unit’s thermal efficiency and standby loss exceed the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-1989. The Titan has been tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories as a packaged water heater, and it is also listed with the California Energy Commission.

State Industries, Inc.is a major North American producer of residential and commercial water heaters and related products, with sales in excess of $400 million. Founded in 1946, the company employs more than 2,000 at its Ashland City facility, located in middle Tennessee near Nashville.

Privately held, the company operates a subsidiary, Apcom Inc., which manufactures water heater components in nearby Franklin, Tennessee.

State Industries also makes pump tanks and expansion tanks at a plant in Charlotte, N.C., and it has a European subsidiary in Valence, France.
