Despite the rain, the wind, the ice, and the snow, the new Northeastern Supply Central Distribution Center will be ready for occupancy by late spring, according to Mike Cornbrooks, Vice President of Operations.
The weather has caused a few delays, but for the most part we are pretty much on schedule for a spring 2001 completion, says Cornbrooks.
Northeasterns new 100,000 square-foot distribution center will feature state-of-the-art technology, including a computerized warehouse management system. It is conveniently located on a 15-acre site in the Lakeside Business Park, just off of Interstate 95 in Edgewood, Maryland, in order to quickly service the needs of Northeasterns customers. Expandable to 200,000 square feet, the building is being constructed by FRP Inc.
The new facility will enable Northeastern to streamline the distribution process. Our goal always is to get products into the hands of our customers as quickly as possible, explains Cornbrooks. Through the use of specialized computer software, inventory will now be tracked throughout varying states in the warehouse. This technology enables Northeastern to increase productivity, heighten customer service, improve picking accuracy, and reduce out-of-stock inventory items.
Our explosive growth in recent years has come from listening to our customers and responding to their needs! This new facility allows us to expand the depth and breadth of our inventory and to continue to grow into the future, says Northeastern President Steve Cook.
The new building is nearly two times the cubic square footage of the existing distribution facility. The CDCs management team includes Norman Houck, CDC Manager, Richard Lazzara, Receiving Supervisor, and Butch Slevin, Transfer Supervisor.
Northeasterns sales center operations and corporate headquarters will continue to operate out of the Baltimore-based Golden Ring location.
